Your bicycle chain breaks on a pedestrian bridge during the busiest hour. Traffic moves beneath you, but no repair shop is near and carrying the heavy frame would take a long time. A delivery rider stops with a compact chain tool that requires another pair of hands to hold the wheel steady.

You work together on the pavement, then notice that her rear brake has loosened. After your chain is restored, she uses your wrench to adjust it. Neither of you planned to stop, but those few minutes return two bicycles to the road instead of rescuing only one.

At the end of the bridge, you choose the riverside descent rather than the quickest lane through traffic. You listen to the chain and test every gear. Returning immediately to speed is not the only proof of a successful repair. Sometimes the wiser choice is giving restored movement a gentler road.
