A freight elevator stops between two floors in an archive building. There is no danger, but stacked boxes block the call panel and the delay may last. Through the narrow opening below, part of a blue storage label appears. Its number does not match the floor you just left.
You shift one crate and read the full label with help from a maintenance worker outside. An entire container has been traveling to the wrong wing for months, while the location index repeats the error. Before the lift moves again, you correct the code on the floor map and mark its proper direction.
The doors finally open, but the delay no longer feels wasted. A mechanical pause stopped movement long enough for you to notice a mistake that had traveled freely every day. Not every interruption opposes useful work. Some provide an angle that remains invisible while you move quickly between one level and another.
