Inside a limestone cave, the guide claps once and the echo returns at a lower note than usual. He has known the chamber for years and insists that its sound changed. The walls look stable, with no sign of collapse, yet the unfamiliar note comes from a sealed passage.
The guide switches off the lamps briefly, and faint running water becomes audible beneath the ground. Recent rain opened a narrow channel behind the wall. The new hollow altered the echo before changing anything visible. Hearing discovers what the eye has not yet reached.
You leave with the same paper map, but the cave in your mind has become deeper. Change does not always announce itself through an obvious fracture. It may begin as a tone unlike yesterday. When the surface appears fixed but you hear a genuine difference, give the sound time before insisting nothing moved.
