In a quiet tea tasting room, a porcelain cup is removed because a narrow crack runs near its rim. It does not leak, but it no longer matches the carefully arranged set. Someone places it aside while the same leaves are poured into complete, identical vessels.

You ask to try it before it is discarded. Its body holds slightly less heat, so the tea cools quickly enough for its aroma to emerge instead of hiding beneath steam. The crack does not improve the leaves, but it changes their timing. A visual flaw creates a different experience that can be described precisely.

You do not return the cup to the row as though nothing changed. It is reserved for a variety that needs gentler heat. It now has work suited to its present condition. Care does not require forcing every object to perform identically. It may mean noticing change and assigning a use that respects it.
